I recently met a mother in her early thirties and when I told her what I did, she responded by saying her parents had divorced when she was a child.

I asked her if she would talk to me about it, and tell me how it could have been handled better, as this could help my clients. She hesitated for only a second before refusing, explaining that it was still too painful for her to talk about, even so many years later.

As she walked away, her parting words to me were: “Tell them to think about their children.”
